Here are a few more pictures of shadow, an SGI 1100. It's a 1U
rackmount (1.75" height) with dual Pentium III 800MHz CPUs and 1gb
RAM. I picked it up used on eBay in December of 2001.

It's a pretty basic industrial beige color; not very interesting from the outside. This gives you an idea of the size, however: 1.75" high, about 17" wide and a touch over 22" long. The 1100s are designed to be rail mounted in a standard four-post rack, but I needed to be able to mount it in a two-post "telco" style rack. I found a 1U rack shelf at RackSolutions.com, which worked out great. |

This was taken from the front of the machine with the cover off.
Notice the slim CD drive and floppy on the left, and the two hard drive
bays to the right. Moving back, you can see the two slant-mounted DIMMs
(512mb each, with two more empty slots), and the two CPU fans, which are
slant-mounted just in front of the large (for a 1U) copper heatsinks.
There are two more blower fans: the semi-circular black things right
at the back of the chassis. There is a PCI slot (empty) under the metal
housing on the left.
There are even two front mounted USB ports, which struck me as odd for a rackmount. |

Again from the rear; you can really see the copper heat sinks and the two blower fans. Note the dual built in Intel 82559 10/100 ethernet ports (right, near the empty PCI slot), two serial ports, and built in video. |
A couple of shots of the IStop.com rack at 151 Front St. West. Shadow is in the brownish rack shelf with the circular openings on the side, right under a Dell box. |
